Does Music Really Soothe The Soul‭?

Music is such an enjoyable pastime. It does not seem to matter what variety it is. It could be your own singing, listening to tunes or perhaps even creating your own sounds.

 

One of the benefits that are often forgotten about is how therapeutic it can be for the individual and it has many benefits in various areas. It is one of the best ways that can create a distraction from any type of emotional upset. Quite often that’s what people find when they sing in the shower or perhaps when driving a car or just humming a tune as they are walking along the street.

 

It seems quite ironic that when someone is upset over relationship perhaps a relationship breakup that they will often turn to the country type music that sings about these types of woes. It’s almost a “misery loves company” type syndrome. However, what it is really is being able to relate to something that has been put into the song.

 

Lately there has been quite a bit of attention paid to the fact that it not only has psychological effects but can have medical effects as well. For example, it has been noticed that music will increase happiness and reduce stress. It will also reduce depression symptoms and it is believed that it will increase your competency as well as give you hope and have your optimism as well.

 

Some interesting studies have been done. As far as kids are concerned one of those studies showed that children that are involved in music programs when they are young usually have lower rates of problems with addictions are better in school and become greater prepared college and then going on to the workforce.

 

Some psychologists are now suggesting that their patients participate in singing. This probably works in a variety of the ways that we just covered. One is to be able to relate to the words and the other is to take their minds off what the problem is that they are suffering from. What it does is gets an individual to shift their thinking on to something else.

 

With all the research that has been done and most likely much more to come in the future one must to admit that you would have nothing to lose by increasing your awareness of music and perhaps enjoying it a bit more.

 

We can actually prove to ourselves on a daily basis just how beneficial it is. Look how often it will soothe the cranky child. Then again how many times were stressed out, we sat and listened to relaxing music, and the stress seemed to melt away.
